(reply from Steve Miller):I don’t know the location of the existing NJNG gas main, but expect it is under Nutswamp road.
The NJNG maps ( for SLV phase1 and SLV phase 2) show the gas coming from Nutswamp Rd
See page 2 of http://climate.smiller.org/SLV/shadow-lake1.pdf This was distributed ~Nov, 2019 to SLV residents
FYI, the reverse side of these pages are scanned at http://climate.smiller.org/SLV/shadow-lake2.pdf

Steve MIller
do you know where the gas mains currently are?
Are they already on Nutswamp Rd?
or How near SLV is there gas service presently ?

If so, thanks
If not, where can I find out?

Thanks once again, Liz

Hi Liz,

Thanks for the add!

Here are two links that may be useful for your letter:
https://www.woodharbinger.com/electricity-natural-gas-showdown/,

This one on stove efficiency has a fascinating comparison between induction heating (90% efficient), gas (40%) and conventional electric (70%): https://home.howstuffworks.com/gas-vs-electric-cooking1.htm

My puzzle for your letter...
What's the best counter-argument to: "Let's do gas for next 5-10 years, and with all the money we save on heating, in ~10 years turn gas off and switch back to all-electric sourced by then many different and much less costly sustainable alternatives"???

Good luck with your letter.

Thanks again,

Tim

With present all-electric houses in SLV, it takes only 15 minutes, for a homeowner to individually switch electrical supplier from JCP&L to a supplier of non-polluting wind or solar and save on the electric bill. Alternatively, join "Middletown for Clean Energy" in asking Middletown to switch the entire town to renewable electricity. So far the Mayor and Middletown Township Committee is dragging heels. Call or write the Middletown Mayor and ask the city to implement R The program is called "Renewable Government Energy Aggregation - RGEA" ( or "Community Choice Electricity" in other states.) See http://electric.smiller.org for explanation.

Steve MIller and John Luard and others ? out there

Thank you for your information and hope.
Prior to our move into SLVillage 4 years ago we had the following items done for saving both natural resources and money:
baseboard heaters removed and a heat pump installed,
the ceilings and walls, insulated
new windows and doors put in
and converted to LED lighting

We have low electric bills each month
I am fiercely opposed to gas ("natural” from fracking while creating methane.)

I am reading and reading and hope to write a simple, clear one-page letter very soon to ????
explaining why “natural” gas is a dreadful choice—hoping wind (or sun) becomes an option within 10 years

Thanks for your offers of help and it is good to know you are also “There."

Use this in your advertising – it describes highly efficient cold climate heat pumps

Ideally, SLV would find a HVAC installer who could contribute analysis comparing operating costs of a gas furnace compared to recent vintage cold weather heat pumpsI
Then challenge NJNG with the data, and force them to reveal/justify/correct their advertising that gas is cheaper than electricity
Alternatively, I have been studying heat pumps. With enough motivation (let mw know if the effort is worthwhile):
1. I could write a paper comparing operating cost of electric heat pumps, versus gas furnace.
2. I could use the data, and force NJNG to reveal/justify/correct their advertising that gas is cheaper than electricity
FYI: I gave Seth the names/address of 25 SLV residents requesting clean energy, in their signed a 4/15/2019 letter to Middletown Committee, . (These people are most likely to be your allies).
