• FACTS/FIGURES: How do you know the reliability of the Earth Warming data? A: millions of data points; 1000s of sources; multiple land, sea, and satellite-based networks; and 1000s of scientists doing the analysis and publishing peer-reviewed papers.
  • WIND: hurt fish & birds?  Noise/visual disturbance?  (Answer?: site & environmental planning reqmts?;  presently windmill farms are sighted to avoid migratory bird routes?) A: bird mortality is 10X higher due to fossil fuel electrical generation.
  • SOLAR: practicality: great adventure to clear 1000s of trees (A:  Great Adventure remedial tree replanting?, etc)
  • CATTLE METHANE importance; importance of eating less meat ? . A: agricultural total emissions, as percent of total emissions in that geographic area: US: 9%; EU 10%, 24% global
  • Why should we hurt ourselves, when the other nations – esp China + India – are much worse  (A: they and other nations are exceeding their Paris Agreements. see India and China slides: see steep drop in coal plants in China + India – use slides from 3/21/2017 Sierra Club “Global Coal Plant Development Freefall Sparks Renewed Hope on Climate Goals”
  • RESULTS OF COAL PLANT CLOSURES: If all those coal plants were closed, why don’t we see results?  (A:: for last 3 years, emissions are flat)
  • What is being done to train WV Coal Miners  (A: Al Gore statement in slide notes; UU reference to “A Just Transition”; movie "From the Ashes"
  • What about EFFECT ON THE ECONOMY   (A: in last 3 years, global GDP has been consistently ~2.5%/year, while total emissions have been flat)
  • FULL CYCLE EMISSIONS for electric cars? A: depends upon fossil-fuel % in the electricity used by the factories. Hence, very full cycle emissions for Tesla which (presumably) uses its own solar company for 100% renewable electric for its factories (esp battery factory)
  • What about CHILD SLAVERY in lithium mining? A: 60% of cobalt (used in lithium batteries) originates in the Congo. Apple (for one example), on 3/3/2017 stopped using cobalt mined by hand in Congo. It requires its supply chains have "appropriate protections" safeguarding workers and banning child labor
  • Future of nuclear? A: Nuclear is not considered a renewal energy source (no permanent storage for spent fuel rods). nuclear is MUCH more expensive than fossil fuels. Hence, economics will drive town the supply of nuclear sources. Presently ~half of local JCP&L electricity is nuclear (ie. Oyster Creek - which is to be closed the end of December, 2019) - to be replaced by whatever PJM has in the pipeline (an increasing percentage of renewable is mandated).
