(email from Steve Miller, on 12/8/2021):

Corey,
Perhaps you could provide feedback on what tactics/topics work best with your students.
We would be  happy to modify our presentation, and speak to the rest of your classes.
Pat and Steve Miller

Hello Pat and Steve,

Thank you for taking the time to speak with my students. It was great to meet you and hear about your work and dedication to the issue. I think it really resonated with students to see that change is possible in the face of such a difficult issue.

I hope our paths cross again soon,
Corey

Corey,
Your arrangements are fine with Pat and me. We will login at 9:30AM on Dec 2.
1. At end of Anjali's portion, you will need to enable screen share for Steve Miller.  Pat and I will separately login with headphones/earpieces for best audio.
2. Are you recording?  If subsequently available, I will place a link and description in my climate web site.
3. I will invite students to signup if they wish to join our activist "50 x 30 Team", by entering their name and email at http://eepurl.com/dpWC1n (contact info is stored in my private site, I dont share with anyone, and each email has an optional "optout" from further contact).
4. We are organizing a "Building Electrification" webinar (switching heating from fossil fuel to electrical heat pump) at 7PM on Thurs, Dec 16, to be advertised by Sierra Club to 80,000 NJ residents.  I will describe content, and ask those interested in attending (or later watch the recording) to send their email to me in the "chat".  Late this week, I will add their email to an invitation to RSVP to receive the webinar link the day of the webinar.
5. In the last 5 minutes of a presentation, I typically have all participants (for those interested, and having access to internet) engage in activism by a quick (editable) letter writing activity.  The "Build Back Better Act" is currently a hot topic, and I would like to clear with you.  I chose the Union of Concerned Scientists site because it is non-political and has optional sign-ups to be on subsequent email lists. Also, Booker and Menendez will write a nice return letter.
On Nov 19, the U.S. House passed the Build Back Better Act -- possibly the most momentous legislation in our lifetime.  It would provide critical investments in clean energy, transportation electrification, climate-resilient agriculture, and environmental justice on a path toward a just and livable clean energy future.  NOW comes the hard part: the U.S. senate must ALSO pass this Build Back Better Act.
ACTION OF THE WEEK:  Demand the U.S. Senate swiftly pass the Build Back Better Act, maintaining all its critical investments in our future and not allowing any weakening. CLICK HEREhttps://secure.ucsusa.org/a/2021-urge-senate-pass-build-back-better-act to write and tell your NJ senators that we will hold them accountable to invest in their constituents and communities.
Let me know if each of the above is OK with your school and you.

Hello Anjali, Pat and Steve,

Thank you again for your offer to speak to my class. I think it will be so interesting and inspiring for my students to hear about your stories and your activism. Tomorrow we will be watching speeches and learning about Greta Thunberg. She is amazing but it will also be good for students to hear from folks working in their own "backyards."

If it is OK with everyone, we could have Anjali share her perspective and what students at Rutgers are working on first 9:30am-10:05am and answer questions from students, and then Steve and Pat could share the interview and talk about their work building a citizen network to push NJ to meet its GHG emission reduction goals. If you would like to just attend for your "portion" that is OK with me, I appreciate you taking time during this busy time of year! Please let me know if that works or you have any questions.

Here is the virtual class meeting info. The Passcode = COP26
