Basically don’t talk about elections or voting specifically or broadly."
SEPT 8, 2018 MARCH LOGISTICS:
The March, on Sept 8, 2018, convenes
at Riverside Gardens Park, West Front Street at
10 AM. The march follows a designated short route through Red Bank
Borough streets, to a rally at “Marine Park”, 1
Marine Park, East Front Street, and concludes at noon.
See map of Red Bank (parking is in colors). Participants
can park on streets in or near Marine Park (pay with “Smart card”, or between $2 and $3 in nickels, dimes, quarters for 2
hours), or park in various large parking areas (map attached), and
pay at kiosks ($2 to $3 for 2 hours).
A parking area of marine Park will be
set aside for a display of full electric cars (and big battery hybrid
cars). Do not park in the electric car
area unless you want to exhibit such a car
Inspirational Speakers still being sought. Current candidates: Pat Miller and Brian Reynolds (candidate for 11/2018 ballot, but Pat thought with the caveat that Brian sticks ONLY to his Climate consulting knowledge, and away from politics). Bill will check with availability of the NJ Rutgers professor Robert Koop, who spoke at 2018 Mayors Climate Summit about climate change effects on NJ. Annette? will check with Monmouth Univ UrbanCoast Institute professor; Steve will check with Food and water speakers; Steve will check with WaterSpirit's "Sister Suzanne Golas" (Pam Adams stated that multiple listeners felt Sister Golas could provide an inspirational speaker for 9/8/2018 rally)
Speakers will use a megaphone (supplied by Tricia), and a headset mic and remote speaker will be supplied by Steve Miller. An AAUW remote mic is avail but not needed (no power is available)
(Speeches must be short; Many people may have chldren, who will not sit for a long period.. A possibility is children's activities (throw recycling in correct bin, etc)
OUR VISION (https://peoplesclimate.org/our-vision/
We envision a world where our private and public leaders prioritize
the protection of our planet; where solutions to remedy climate change are
equitable, lift up those that are most impacted, and are rooted in racial and
economic justice; and where facts win out over fiction and there is
universal agreement about the impacts of climate change on the earth and all of
its inhabitants.
We envision a world where a just transition to a clean and
renewable energy economy creates millions of new, good jobs that can be
unionized, provide family-sustaining wages, and foster professional and
personal satisfaction; where returns on new energy investments go to those
who have for decades been hardest hit and/or left behind; and where race,
gender, income, and sexual identity don’t impact access to clean air and water.
We envision a world where job creation benefits everyone –
especially displaced and workers of color; where people of all economic
backgrounds can live in communities free from degradation; and where
respect for the earth is mirrored in the respect we have for each other.
