NJ 50 by 30 Building Electrification Committee report 5/3/2022
1. On May 2, 2022, the NJ Building Electrification (BE) Admin Subteam distributed a position paper and cover letter to Gov Murphy with recommendations for administrative actions that will accelerate BE to help meet the state’s 50x30 GHG emission goal. Each NJ Administration agency head was copied. We are inviting each head and/or staff to meet with us and discuss our letter and position. Subsequent meetings: May 12, afternoon, NJ BPU,.others TBD
2.We will shortly distribute a 2nd letter to Gov Murphy (with distribution to EJ organizations). We request Zero Energy construction standards in order to lower construction and operational costs for the governor’s proposal to dedicate $305M to fund 3300 affordable housing units
3.On May 5, at 7PM, the combined NJ 50x30 BE Admin and Legislative Subteams working meeting will prepare for two meetings:
May 18, 11AM to noon zoom meeting with NJ Asm James Kennedy and staff. Through May and June, we expect follow-on meetings with Asm Kennedy and other NJ legislators including Asm Zwicker and others.
May 10, 1PM - 2PM meet with Jennifer Senick, Exec Dir of Rutgers Green Building Center. We will discuss several areas of mutual interest with Green Building Center, to determine synergies where our “50x30 Team” can contribute.
4. We continued to collect comments on the NJ Building Code Roadmap to speed up reaching Zero-ready and Net-zero building codes. We are helping NEEP.org (which is under contract with the NJ BPU) to gather stakeholder's input on these proposed codes. "EJ Members" are asked to comment. In May, NEEP will schedule a review, and "listening session" where we can reinforce our written comments.
