19:00:43 From Maribel to Everyone: hello 19:12:06 From Steve M to Everyone: Tonight's slides: https://climate.smiller.org/50x30/building-electrification/2025-9-18/UseItOrLoseIt-Slides.pdf 19:20:48 From Enis to Everyone: Do you have to give your income information to the dealer to qualify for a rebate for new EV? 19:21:15 From Nadine to Everyone: The solar array on my home is 18 years old. We have electrified a lot in our home, and our solar array no longer meets our electricity needs. I tried two different community solar companies and was not able to be connected to their projects. One told me that my household was NOT eligible for community solar since we have rooftop solar at our home. Can you confirm that customers with rooftop solar ARE eligible for community solar in NJ? Do you know who I can confirm that with? 19:23:42 From Denise to Everyone: Can you explain what "30% up to $2000" means? 19:27:28 From Betsy to Everyone: Replying to "The solar array on my home is 18 years old. We hav...": I gave her a name of one of our coaches who now works for a community solar developer. 19:29:14 From Steve M to Everyone: Whether current rooftop owners can have community solar? We were advised by Solar Landscape (the largest Community Solar developer) that rooftop solar owners should apply for Community Solar. Maybe half get accepted. We know several people who WERE able to subscribe to community solar. But we have seen variations between electric utilities. 19:31:30 From Steve M to Everyone: 30% up to $2000 means the maximum tax credit allowed, for that category, is $2000. You might have other tax credits, in other categories. 19:34:11 From Steve M to Everyone: when purchasing an EV, our dealer required entry of income of the purchaser, but did not tell how it was to be used. It may have been in connection with qualifying for the NJ rebate. 19:36:03 From Howard S to Everyone: Does the water heater make the basement cooler? 19:36:26 From Katherine M to Everyone: This has been a very helpful webinar. Thank you for all this information. 19:37:10 From Betsy L to Everyone: Replying to "Does the water heater make the basement cooler?": yes. Pat might be able to tell you whether it is noticeable. 19:37:35 From Nadine S to Everyone: My contractor (a NJ Electrification Coach) has info on the new state Building Carbonization incentives. I have PSE&G. I was told that my cold weather heat pump will be eligible for $8000-10,000 rebate. My contractor will get back to me next week with the exact numbers. 19:39:30 From steve M to Everyone: yes, the basement water heater somewhat cools its local basement area while it operates. Overall the basement probably lowers a small amount that is not noticeable to me HOWEVER, the water heater also dehumidifies the basement- and that is noticeable! ( I have a dehumidifier, which I turn "on" when basement humidity rises above ~62%) 19:40:24 From Rick’s iPad to Everyone: How does shade from trees affect viability for rooftop solar 19:41:56 From Betsy L to Everyone: Replying to "How does shade from trees affect viability for roo...": Your panels cannot be shaded, so you have to consider how the sun moves in the sky and casts shade also. The angle of the sun to the panel, affected by the pitch of the roof, also greatly affects the efficiency of the panels. 19:42:25 From Howard S to Everyone: When my neighbor took down the tree at the property line my solar output went up by about 10% 19:42:50 From steve M to Everyone: PSEG is rolling out its decarbonization (up to $10K). Some contractors know the details, and others don't at this time. JCP&L says they will? rollout end of October, and customers should NOT expect high rebates offered by other NJ utilities. 19:44:51 From Rick’s iPad to Everyone: Is roof top solar cost effective for us as we are in our seventies? 19:46:55 From Betsy L to Everyone: Replying to "Is roof top solar cost effective for us as we are ...": The usual payback period they say is about 5 to 7 years. I put mine in during the spring of 2022 and I have not paid for electricity since then, except for one month. You'll have to look at your electricity usage and get a quote, and see what the numbers say. Electricity is only going to get more expensive. 19:47:58 From Howard S to Everyone: we put our system 20 years ago when it was more expensive we paid it off in about 5 years. Don't forget to ask about SRECs (solar renewable energy credits. They amount to 20 cents a KWh! 19:48:01 From steve M to Everyone: You probably should plan to stay in your house for 5-8 years after rooftop solar puchase, so you can achieve break-even. Beyond that is gravy. 19:52:16 From Enis B to Everyone: Which car did you buy? Which dealer? Steve M answer: we bought (online) a Tesla model 3; then showed up at sales office in Springfield, NJ to pickup and drive away. We also stopped at a Tesla "Service" location to view models and test drive (if we wanted) 19:52:25 From Christina E to steve miller (direct message): Steve, please tell Pat how much I enjoyed the presentation. I would love to connect with you both over the next few day to set a date for the presentation at St. George. Have to go pick up hubby from the train station. Thanks again. 19:52:29 From Mark F to Everyone: Great Presentation!!! 19:53:26 From Nadine S to Everyone: I got a Nissan Ariya (medium SUV), 100% electric. I get about 300 miles to the charge. 🙂 19:53:44 From Enis to Everyone: Why not ioniq 19:54:47 From Rémi G to Everyone: Why a electric water heater heat pump dehumidify the basement? 19:55:03 From Denise Brush to Everyone: do heat pump water heaters have an outside component like air conditioners do? 19:55:58 From Howard S to Everyone: No, The emit cool air into the room they are in. 19:57:15 From John Wto Everyone: Denise, I know of 1 hpwh that has an outside unit, split system 19:58:09 From Nadine S to Everyone: Big thanks for this valuable information!! And thank you for providing the slides. 19:58:20 From Edward N to Everyone: Great presentation Pat & Steve! You are great coaches! I'm still waiting for the BD program to start. Have received a flyer from a contractor Cardwell that promotes the BD rebates 19:58:22 From Rick’s iPad to Everyone: Replying to "Is roof top solar cost effective for us as we are ...": We just bought a 2025 Volvo xc60 T8 plug in hybrid. The lease ended up not being any better financially. What is the income limit for the fed rebate? 20:02:05 From Judy G to Everyone: I have 15 year old solar panels - also no longer meeting my expanded electricity use. I was accepted by Solar Landscape a couple of years ago. 20:02:34 From Enis B to Everyone: Replying to "Is roof top solar cost effective for us as we are ...": @Rick’s iPad 150k/person, 300k/couple for a new EV. 20:03:30 From Judy G to Everyone: Does anyone know of a good 120 volt induction stove? I know some are manufactured. 20:04:56 From Edward N to Everyone: Replying to "Is roof top solar cost effective for us as we are ...": We bought an Equinox EV and love it. Dealer took the $7500 tax credit off the cost of the car. NJ took off $4K 20:05:17 From Howard S to Everyone: Check out Consumer Reports. We got a GE cooktop. the install was a major pain because we put in a down draft venting. 20:07:45 From Howard S to Everyone: With a plug in hybrid you should use up a tank of gas at least once a month. Otherwise you will get a varnish build up. 20:08:30 From Edward N to Everyone: Replying to "Is roof top solar cost effective for us as we are ...": Charge Up NJ provides a $2k credit for everyone buying an EV 20:09:52 From Steve M to Everyone: Sorry ... I have to drop. Fantastic meeting and presentation, Thank You! I look forward to participating in future meetings! ;-) 20:10:18 From Orion Hto Everyone: PSE&G has EV charger rebate programs for charging off-peak (11pm-7am). This requires specific level 2 chargers with network connection. They also rebated most of the labor charge for installing the chargers, with the caveat that the local building inspector signed off on the project. 4 years ago I rec'd about $800 on the install and am currently saving about $50 per month in off-peak charging. 20:16:58 From Rémi Gto Everyone: All the EVs are great nowadays, before there was only Tesla who was good technically, but now others are good too. I have a Ioniq5 and it is a great car. 20:22:25 From Peggy M to Everyone: Can I get copy of that flyer to print out? 20:28:49 From Enis B to Everyone: Thank u! 20:28:55 From Orion H to Everyone: It may or may not matter to some folks, but NJ and PA have recently assessed a surcharge on the annual registration on EV and Hybrid cars of $250... 20:28:58 From Maryrose L to Everyone: thank you! Great Presentation! 20:29:14 From Rick’s iPad to Everyone: Thank yoiu
